Storing and Brewing Coffee
Storing Beans and Preserving Flavor
Your coffee beans' enemies are air, moisture, heat, and light. To ensure optimal freshness follow the following guidelines:
- Store coffee in dry area at room temperature. Avoid storing in refrigerator.
- Once you have obtained the desired amount of coffee from your bag, make sure you compress bag to remove excess air then reseal with zip lock seal on bag.
Grinding
If you buy whole bean coffee, always grind your beans as close to the brew time as possible for maximum freshness. A burr or mill grinder is best allowing for consistent grind size.
Measuring Coffee
A general guideline is called the "Golden Ratio" - one to two tablespoons of ground coffee for every six ounces of water. This can be adjusted to suit individual taste preferences.
Water
Always use good quality water. Water temperature should be between 195 to 205 degrees Fahrenheit for optimal extraction.
